The Logical Device to Fit - if you have an Overdrive

Logic overdrive devices.
I have read with some amusement all the too-ings and fro-ings on this subject with some correspondents making it all sound desperately difficult. What is the background? Well, when Revington TR was called TR Spares Southwest in 1982 ish, I designed a device to allow me to change gear and overdrive at the same time specifically with racing in mind but obviously I found that the device was a fantastic improvement on all cars both road and competition. I called this device a ’Logic Overdrive device’ (sound familiar?)Initially the device was constructed of basic electrics but has since been redesigned and is now fully electronic.

RTR1001K

RTR1296NK

RTR8436

So how does it operate and how do you fit it? There is no need to remove the gearbox tunnel, the box of tricks and all the other fittings that come in the kit (which comes with full instructions), is wired into the existing wiring from the gearbox tunnel upwards to the switch and original relay (pre CF CR TR6 cars). A flick switch RTR8436 is used to operate the system and in the case of TR4-6 the original switch can be modified to become a flick switch (Meaning momentary operation with self-return). The modus operandi is this: Whatever gear or state of overdrive the car is in when the ignition is turned off, the overdrive will be off when you turn on the ignition again. When overdrive is required (in an overdrive enabled gear of course), flick the switch. When a non-overdrive gear is required from an overdrive gear, flick the switch. If a fast change is required from say 2nd overdrive to non -overdrive 3rd , just move the gear lever to 3rd and the logic device will disengage overdrive for you as you pass through the gear shift gate. This applies to any gear change up or down the gearbox where the start point was an overdrive gear.We recommend a light on the dash to identify the overdrive state.  And it is worth noting that both negative and positive earth devices are available.
Two types of kits are available RTR1001K which is a basic unit suitable for both positive and negative earth and RTR1296NK, RTR1296PK which provide a facility to dim the indicator lamp independently for both day and night. The ‘N’ and the ‘P’ in these part numbers indicates negative and positive earth variants. To find out prices and more, just click on the part numbers above or type these part numbers into the search box on our website www.revingtontr.com  That is the history and I can confirm these units have been sold by their thousands and continue to work faultlessly in many applications (not just TR’s) around the world, so now there is no need to go searching for components to build a device that may or may not work, it has all be designed for you and been field tested in thousands of cars for the last 30 years.

RevingtonTR - Bosch PI Specialists

At RevingtonTR we have been repairing standard PI installations and designing and installing our own Bosch fuel pump kits for many years. Our design has been copied by many but we believe never bettered. With a wealth of experience from our own workshops and working with an approved Bosch distributor we are able to design the best installation for your TR. There have been several changes to Bosch fuel pumps over recent months that have led to some poor supercessions in pump specifications from various suppliers. Working with our Bosch distributor we have ensured our pumps are the correct specification for the intended purpose. Our kits have pumps with the correct flow rates and pressures to ensure your PI system operates with optimum performance. A tap also ensures the system can be isolated if required. A see through filter to help initial installation (which is later replaced with an aluminium sleeve) helps servicing and enables you to visually check for fuel contamination. Our hoses and fittings are also made specifically for our installation by a local manufacturer. Tight quality control and high quality parts ensure you get  great performance from  a RevingtonTR Bosch Fuel pump conversion. Finally, being fitting in the wheelarch it ensures unwanted fumes are kept out of the boot.Others kits may look similar but ours are the real thing

Our latest kit is  RTR4050XK  (click on the part number to see more detail).  It really is a must if you are considering a Bosch conversion.

Check out our web site for more details or give us a call on 01823698437 or e mail info@revingtontr.com http://dlvr.it/10Thtp

2011 - Where did it go?

What year, it has just flown by so quickly. Once again  we have had a busy year at RevingtonTR. Despite the tough economic situation around the world we are pleased to announce there is still a strong TR market out there. We have seen demand grow from area’s with a strong currency particularly Australia. Our presence in the market place as TR specialists is spreading to more distant shores and we are seeing our shipments overseas grow. Parcel size to overseas markets has been a problem as many shippers ship on volume rather than weight. We will endeavour to keep shipping costs down during 2012.

We have also been putting in a lot of effort to ship as quickly as possible. Together with our next day delivery service we were able to get parts out to you quickly. During the week commencing 28th November 60% or orders were shipped the same day with the average shipment time for all parcels being less than 1 day. I am really pleased with this performance and will be looking to improve on this during 2012.

I am going to keep the big drum out and bang on a little more about the parts we supply. We still appear to have a lot of customers that are not aware we sell standard as well as modified parts!! Some don’t come to us because they think we are expensive, and we know some of you do, please ask why. In many instances it is because our product is different from other suppliers. We are an independent company able to sell the best available parts. We try hard to ensure you have the best parts. Check out our prices and give us a call. We know you can always go elsewhere but we want the best for you and will always try to provide the best service and quality.

A lot of you will also know Bill white retired this year.  I have added photo below of his leaving presentation. Once again  I would like to thank Bill for his support and wish him well for the future.

And Finally- We’ve got a whole new year to look forward to. We have further developments planned for our fantastic and some will say market leading web site to make the experience easier and more informed. We are always trying to add more photos but that is an ongoing task. Who knows what else 2012 holds for us but lets enjoy the holiday season. Have a great Christmas and New Year and I look forward to speaking to you all in 2012.

Revington TR / TR Register Sprint and Hillclimb Championship roundup

What a fantastic year we have had, what with the rule changes and some great weather and yet another young champion to celebrate. It was a thrilling closely competed championship, with three potential champions at the last event of the season. As usual the 2011 season was wrapped up with a presentation dinner at Wroxton Hall Hotel near Banbury. The drivers meeting started the proceedings at 3pm, presided over by our co-ordinator Roger McEwen. During which we reviewed the past season, elected officers and voted on any changes to the championship rules.

The main piece of business this year was a change to the scoring system. At last years drivers meeting we agreed a change to alter the complete ethos of the championship by allowing not only any Triumph to compete but also any standard of car without the encumbrance of a strict class system. We all agreed this had worked fine and once established we hope will encourage more competitors to our ranks. Whilst in principle the new system has worked well, there was one change needed with the scoring system to limit improvement over bogey time, this being necessary as competitors who completely trashed their bogey, whilst doing well themselves at that event, had an unnecessarily large adverse effect on the results of fellow competitors at that event. Limiting score to 2.5 above bogey we hope will cure this.
Apart from that, we discussed ways to promote the Championship more (including this blog!) which has been ably persued through 2011 by Kevin Bryant. Unfortunately Kevin couldn’t be present as his clutch died on his TR3 on the way to the meeting, but thankfully it only appears to be slave cylinder rubbers that are at fault.
As usual earnest thanks were given to Kevin for his continued commitment to organising our championship, after which we adjourned to the bar.
For most the highlight of the evening was of course our presentation dinner, Sue and I agreed that the meal this year was second to none. We took a break between starter and main course to present the awards.
Jonathon Weedon was our champion this year, driving his dads car, which is a beautifully prepared red TR5 in race trim and unusually sporting a live rear axle. He did this to some considerable effect, given that he achieved maximum points at every event he took part in: well done Jonathon!
David Hardcastle and Simon Allaby sharing an extremely rapid TR7 V8 came second and third respectively. We were hoping that the championship would be down to the wire at Castle Combe which was the last event of the season. Jonathon turned up as did Simon and David who all had a chance of becoming champion. Unfortunately the TR7 V8 developed symptoms of the flywheel falling off the engine. I figured I could get the gearbox out see if we could tighten it all back up again and get it re-assembled for afternoon runs but the lads felt this was too daunting and the car went back on the trailer. This was a shame as we had looked forward to a good ol’ ding dong to sort out the champion at the end of the year. None-the-less Jonathon was a worthy champion. Simon could not attend the dinner, so David received the award for him.
Nick Smith took the award for best newcomer, who managed to attend more meetings than any this year and given that this was his first season he quite clearly was enjoying himself. Nick proved to be quicker than our handicappers had anticipated and some quick re-calculations of his bogey times were required. Nick drives a TR6, which is relatively standard, but he still pedals it pretty sharpish. At this rate Nick is a strong contender for a championship win in 2012. Here I must point out, the photographs were taken by Rod (except the one of himself, see below) and I know he took several of me presenting Nick with his award but he chose to send me for this blog when we were joking about something and I decided to throw a pout: we don’t take it too seriously, it’s all for fun after all!
The final three awards were for best performance by cylinder capacity. Historically these would have been class awards, but of course we don’t have classes any more.

Graham Ramsey took the 4-cylinder trophy driving his near standard yellow TR7. At presentation dinners, when Graham wins an award we always skew the photograph by me bending my knees slightly as Graham is so tall we always look like ‘Little and Large’.
John Weedon took the best 6-cylinder award in of course the same car that Jonathon won the championship. Their have been several father son partnerships in the past and inevitably their is a high chance that son will do better than father in the long term. Could this be an age thing? Or a wallet thing I wonder!
The 8-cylinder award was received by Rod Warner. His black TR7 V8 has been around for eons, always performs reliably and seems to have a few tweaks every year to make it go a bit quicker. Rod who contributes hugely to our championship as he is the one who crunches all the figures for us.
Congratulations to everyone who won an award this year and thank you to everyone who competed as for there to be winners their needs to be a full grid of competitors to make it all worthwhile.

John and Jonathon are taking part in a different championship next year, they’ve certainly as a family supported the championship over a considerable number of years. When John was first competing in his TR4, Jonathon was being pushed around the paddock in a push chair. Jonathon is now pushing _his_ first child around the paddock in a push chair, so it would be fair to say that they have been lifelong supporters. So thanks to all the family for your support over the years.

Looking forward, we already have a provisional calendar for 2012, with some new and interesting venues to attend. If you are contemplating having a go, please come and join us, you really can ‘run what you broung’, as long as you have the clobber (helmet, overalls, licence etc.) and conform to a few simple safety rules. Any of us will be delighted to assist, myself, Roger or any other of the competitors, I feel sure we will all be happy to give the benefit of our experience.

The full list of 2012 events will be available to see at any time on the competition section of the TR Register website. We will keep you informed, via our website and blog throughout the year and if your into this new fangled book face thing, we have a page here and a twitter feed here.

For my part, many of you remember_ _I started building a TR3 Beta for the purpose of competition in the middle 80s but rule changes at the time meant that this lightweight special had nowhere to play. It’s a TR4 chassis with a TR3 Beta body and a TR6 fuel injected engine. For years when we had first bought Thorngrove Barns, it laid in an open lean-to decidedly unloved. However we dragged out SKOLLOB (as it is affectionately known) and brought it into our workshop, where I hope to get it ready for sometime next season. I’d be astonished if it is ready for the beginning of the season but it may come out during the later part of the year. Even though after so many years, exposed to the elements, it is still surprisingly sound.

The inner shell, which is steel, has lots of surface corrosion and the fibreglass outer panels have a few knocks, which will hopefully be easily repaired. Marcus insisted on taking a photograph of it, despite it looking bloody aweful but I take his point that rags to prince is always a nice story.

Talking of my son Marcus, who of course writes these blogs not me (hi!), or at least runs the keyboard, while I pontificate, he and his sister Natalie have been hankering after having a go in competition for some time. So they are getting competition licences for Christmas and will be seeing them double driving with me or one another during 2012.

We are all looking forward to a great season in 2012, if you are not planning on competing, it certainly would be great to see you at one of events as a spectator as it makes our day more enjoyable having like minded people chat to.

Best regards and see you in the new year! http://dlvr.it/yCDpy

National Classic Car Show 2011

The Classic Car show at the NEC was a fantastic debut for the Police Car. Now with its refurbishment complete it stood proudly on display with other Special TRs on the TR Register stand. The TR Register had a great display that included a new lighting gantry that threw spotlights on all of the cars, a fantastic addition to show the cars at their best. The Police car had lots of visitors over the weekend, many not knowing that there was a Police variant. With a display board showing some history behind the car and a board at the side of the car detailing Neils efforts in the restoration process, the cars attendance at the show was a great success.

If you have any pictures of the car or stand then please send them to us so we can publish them to the wider world. **

Police Car at NEC Classic Car Show

 TR Register welcomes Police car
If you are at the NEC classic car show this weekend why not drop onto the TR Register stand and see the fully restored Police car. Neil Revington has spent several years restoring the TR4 to its former glory. Now on show for the first time since its restoration has been completed it is a fine example of the TR4 in Police guise.
